Can I write acheck at the grocery store, with negative balance in my account?

I usally go shopping on tuesdays because then the check won't go through til thursday when i get paid, I bouunced a check though and my account is negative. When you write a check nd they put it through the machine, can they tell if there is money in the account?

I wrote a check before ith onlt like 10 in the bank, it was fine.

Checks are clearing faster and faster these days.  It is very unwise to issue one on the expectation the money will beat the check.  It might be OK (not wise but OK) to write a check at 10 p.m. Wed. night if you get direct deposit on Thursday but even that is doubful.

You can overcome the one bounced check you have had by being fastidious in your banking habits but don't risk another episode.

Yes you can but you will be breaking the law. It is called check kiting. Writing a check you know you can't cover. It is a crime, not just a civil offense and I strongly advise against it.

Can you? Yes if they store does not run checks electronically.

Should you? Absolutely not.
