Can I write to a "double layer" DVD?

I'm trying to copy a DVD that is 150 minutes long... 30 minutes longer than a standard 120-minute DVD-R. So, how do I know if I can use one of the new DL (double-layer) DVDs? How do I know if my DVD burner can write to it properly?

  1. if the dvd is made from aliens, then you can copy all of the 150 minutes to the new dvd. if not, then probably not. humans are good at making double layer dvds

  2. The DVD burner will specifically say somewhere on it that it can burn dual layer DVDs.

  3. Yes. Just write to it as if it was just any normal DVD.

  4. The drive will have "Double Layer" written on the front. if not then the answer is NO. I have a Memorex Drive but never use the double side disks as they are to expensive.

  5. If you can burn a double layer dvd will depend upon both your Drive as well as your Software.  The DVD that is 150 minutes long can and probably will fit on a standard DVD.  What will fit on the disk is not measured in time but file size.  Standard DVD will take 4.7gig of data.

Check your file size that your are desiring to burn and if it's under 4.7gig then burn it to a regular dvd.  You can always look up your DVD drive on the manufacturers page to identify whether or not it supports DL.

    Good Luck

  6. Check to see what kind of burner you have. Then go online and see what capabilities it has.

These drives are not commonly placed in computers due to their cost.
