  1. I work in production at a major U.S. ice cream plant. We print a jetcode on each package containing the lot #, expiration date, and other information. The expiration date we print is exactly one year from the date it was made. This is just to err on the side of safety. If your ice cream has been kept in a very cold freezer, (like you say) and if ice crystals have not formed, then it is completely safe to eat. If the ice cream had been kept in a traditional freezer where the door gets opened and closed all the time, I would stick to the one year rule and say it's probably bad. After our ice cream gets pumped into each package, it is robotically deposited in a special freezer (we call it the Intec) where it stays for several hours (it is -40 below in there), before it comes down a conveyor to be palletized, and stored in the normal part of the freezer where it is only -20 below. Actual people rarely go inside the Intec, as it is completely computerized, but we have found packages of ice cream that have gotten stuck inside that we did not know about. We looked at the date at determined the ice cream was over 3 years old. We brought it into our lab, and determined it was still good. Even without this happening, the QA department at our plant knows good and well that, provided ice cream is stored at a low enough temperature, it will stay good for a very, very long time.

  2. 2 years is a really long time i wouldnt eat it even if it tasted good

  3. Yes Ice Cream can go bad!  I've had ice cream that was 2 and half years old.. it tasted ok but it made me six for about a whole month!  ( what's rolo?)   Taste isn't a reliable way to tell if ice cream is bad.   Now I won't eat Icecream that is somewhat discoloured from it's normal colour!

  4. ice cream can get freezer burn and have that kind hard to describe weird tasted.  you wont get sick from freezer burn but you can if someone left the ice cream out and left it out for a long time and then put it back in the freezer to freeze.  ice cream has milk

  5. That ice cream has crytallized by now.I would not eat or even give it to my dog.

  6. As long as it stayed frozen and tastes fine have had it.

  7. Yes it can get freezer burned like other stuff. It will be chewy and taste old. But if your still tastes good it must be ok...

  8. Ice cream can pick up flavors or odors from the freezer.

The freezer goes through defrost cycles.  During that time the freezer temperature rises a bit and moisture is removed.   That is why you may see parts that have the rubbery or spongy look.  So the ice cream has gone through a freeze thaw cycle.

The ice cream will not "go bad" but the flavor and freshness is not optimal.

Will you get sick from it?  Probably not.

  9. Remember what Rambo said. "If it does not kill you...it will make you stronger!"

  10. it could still be good.

the only problem is that it gets freezer burned but if it taste fine then be my guest
