He has performed well in an ODI doesnt mean he should be seen as the biggest threat so no need to panic on his name. Test matches are a different ball game & with the inclusion of experienced players it wouldn't be an uphill task because in test matches you can take time to settle. So yes India can win the test series.

if  Ajanta Mendis continues to bowl the same way he bowled in Asia Cup, chances of India winning the Idea cup are very remote.  However, if Indian batsmen succeeds in tackling Mendis and Murali, they can win the tournament.

Here we need our top and experienced players to handle Mendis. If Sachin gets going against Mendis like he did against Hogg and Warne in the past, then noone will stop India from winning the series. Since Sachin is the best player of spin in the Indian line-up he must attack Mendis. If he gets going then he will set the tone for Ganguly and Laxman who are the other two best player of spin.
