I recently bought an 08 Envoy on 8/29/08. Called Allstate to remove coverage from old car to new truck. They stated that they are on some type of ban that took effect on 8/28/08 @ 10:30am and couldn't add my truck until hurricane passes and the ban is lifted. Is this for all insurance companies in the state of Louisiana for purchases like car, home, boat etc. Are car dealerships (in Louisiana) aware of this hurricane ban?

  1. That's standard procedure when hurricane's are landing.  Basically there is a moratorium on physical damage coverage being added to a vehicle.  If your old vehicle had full coverage though, i'm not sure if this applies.

  2. If they said you can't add your new truck- we can't tell you if they will grant coverage.

I suggest you go down to your agents office and get more information from him. He should be able to tell you if there will be coverage or not.

If he can't - then you start calling every other company in the area and find a new insurance agent.

  3. It may be standard practice for adding new coverage.  However, if this is a replacement for a vehicle already insured, you should have the same coverage on it as on the old car for 30 days from date of purchase,
