Due to recent sanctions on Iran, I thought I might not be able to get into American universities.

  1. Yes it's very possible, you have to arrange the correct visa so maybe a student visa.

  2. Yes it is possible.  You just have to get a Visa or something along those lines.

Even despite these sanctions, I heard its still possible.

  3. You will have problems.

The US does not have diplomatic relations with Iran. Therefore, to get a visa, you will need to contact the US Interests Section at Swiss Embassy in Tehran (I'm not sure if they issue visas) or the US Embassy in a border country.

Also, Iran is considered a state sponsor of terrorism. A student visa is considered a non-immigrant visa. People who are applying for non-immigrant visas from state sponsors of terrorism will be denied unless they are approved by the Secretary of State.

I'm sorry, but I think it's unlikely that the Secretary of State has the time to go over student visa applications.

    Edit:

Now that I've re-read it, I'm not sure if it means you only need an inteview or if it means you will be denied immediately. Stupid government language. Contact the US Interests Section in Tehran.

  4. There are plenty of Iranian students at my university.

So it's definitely possible.  No embassy does not equal no student visas, regardless of the conclusion the answerer above me draws.
