Can Jodi Ewart win the title in Arkansas?
Jodi Ewart, the latest golf sensation from England, is all set to play in the 2012 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. While she is not known to many fans out there, analysts and golf commentators are aware of the rising star that is Jodi
Ewart.
Jodi Ewart is playing her rookie year on LPGA. She had a great amateur career, playing in various events on the amateur circuit.
She developed her skills while attending the University of New Mexico. She graduated with an aptitude for golf and a degree in psychology.
What are her chances at the Arkansas event? Well, her performance has been fairly good this year. She has appeared in ten tournaments so far, with great results. She appeared in all major tournaments and played impressively.
Ewart is no stranger to playing against top players. She offered tough competition to Suzann Pettersen during their faceoff in LPGA Sybase Match Play Championship. Much to everyone’s surprise, Jodi Ewart managed to beat Suzann Pettersen.
While many say that it was Ewart’s luck, she herself does not give luck much credit. According to her, “I was like, ‘I am going to get absolutely thrashed. But when we both parred No. 3, it just really calmed me down. On No. 4, I holed a really good birdie
putt and after that I was just really steady”.
This confidence will be her biggest support when she will face the top players in what many say is the toughest tournament of the year.
A look at the entry list is enough to evaluate her chances at the 2012 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
The tournament will see the return of the two-time winner Yani Tseng. Tseng is in great shape and she already has a string of wins under her belt.
Also competing will be Suzann Pettersen, whom Ewart already birdied out at Sybase Match Play Championship.
But these two players will not be Ewart’s only worry. Seven of the world’s top ten will participate in the tournament and will give Ewart a good run for her money.
Another important point that goes against Jodi Ewart is the course itself. She is a complete stranger to the Pinnacle Country Club. This is a major issue for any golf player.
Although Ewart will play the practice rounds, it is not enough. Knowledge of the layout of the course and how a hole plays is very important.
These points aside, Ewart’s chances look good. She has played some good golf over the last months and her game is steadily improving. She already has two top-10 finishes this year.
Her first came in March at Kia Classic. She scored 284 with a good performance in every round. Her second top-10 finish was more recent in May. She played in Sybase Match Play Championship.
Next, she played in two LPGA events in which her performance was somewhat not up to the mark. She played in ShopRite LPGA Classic and finished in the 40th position. This was a major slide down the leaderboard for Ewart.
Her most recent LPGA event was Wegmans LPGA Championship, in which she performed significantly well. She put in a major effort and ended up in the 36th position.
Ewart was very excited about the game. Talking about the last round she said, “It was a bit of a crazy round”.
Jodie Ewart is all set to play at Arkansas and she is looking to improve her rankings in international golf.
