Can John McCain Even BE President Since He Was Born in Panama?

http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1157621

Senator McCain was born in 1936 in the Canal Zone to U.S. citizen parents. The Canal Zone was territory controlled by the United States, but it was not incorporated into the Union. As requested by Senator McCain's campaign, distinguished constitutional lawyers Laurence Tribe and Theodore Olson examined the law and issued a detailed opinion offering two reasons that Senator McCain was a natural born citizen. Neither is sound under current law. The Tribe-Olson Opinion suggests that the Canal Zone, then under exclusive U.S. jurisdiction, may have been covered by the Fourteenth Amendment's grant of citizenship to "all persons born . . . in the United States."

  1. This one is easy:  McCain's parents were both American, his dad was an Admiral in the Navy, and McCain was born in a military hospital, which is American soil, therefore making McCain a natural born citizen.....

  2. You need to do a search on this question because it's been brought up many times, the last being about 2 hours ago.

What these articles conveniently leave out is the fact that John was born on a military base of American parents.  Military bases are considered part of the USA even when they're not on US soil.  AND, his parents are citizens, therefore he is too!

When will this topic be laid to rest??

  3. Yes.  You're not the first person to have thought of this question.  There are committees to determine Presidential candidates and these basics are covered.

  4. Yes, because he was born on a military base.

Sen. Obama was born in Hawaii in 1963 (a state since 1959) to an American mother.  Yet so many people have questioned whether or not he is an American.

    Talk about double standards, AGAIN!

  5. He himself is a Navy brat.  Therefore, yes he can.

  6. Yes he can; this was confirmed by Congress a long time ago.

  7. You better call Johnny up and make sure he's aware he can't be president....before he spends another million of his wife's money.

  8. Yes he can be president.  He was in the military and fought (almost died) for our country why can't he be president?

  9. YES he can. HE chose to be A US citizen. He has not used his dual citizen ship. if your parents are out of the country and your born is lets say Japan. your considered a US citizen.
