Can Jonas Blixt continue his run of birdies and qualify for the WGC-HSBC Champions?
The Swedish professional golfer Jonas Blixt has been playing some decent golf on the PGA Tour. Since the last few tournaments, he has been playing some tremendous golf.
His hard work finally paid off when he secured the victory at the Frys.com Open. The good thing about his victory was that there were four consistent rounds. It was not like a see-saw performance.
Yes, Jonas has won his first tournament on the PGA Tour but it is not enough for him to secure a place at the WGC-HSBC Champions. What he needs to do is win at McGladrey Classic to book a place in the WGC event.
The winner of the McGladrey Classic will get an automatic spot in the WGC-HSBC Champions. Considering the form Blixt is in, he can certainly win the tournament and get a spot in the elite event.
The Swede has been shooting some really low scores recently and a few good rounds at the McGladrey Classic would give him a decent chance of making it to the Olazabal course in Shenzhen.
The world number 75th has recently been on a birdie spree. At the Shriners for Hospital Open, he shot 25 birdies in total, which on the average makes 6.25 birdies in a round.
At CordeValle, the Swede played some excellent shots and the way he controlled his game in the last round was superb.
He showed the nerve and character of a winner at the Frys.com Open. If he can come up with a similar performance at the McGlardey Classic, then it would make things interesting.
However, there is one aspect on which he needs concentrate, and that is, he needs to control his bogeys.
Many of the top golfers on the PGA Tour will be taking part in McGladrey Classic. So it will not be easy for the Swede but the way he is playing at the moment, he certainly has a decent chance.
The course at the McGladrey Classic will certainly favor his game. The lush green fairways will make it pretty easier for him to shoot some magnificent approaches. His iron shots have been the highlight of his game in the last couple of tournaments.
The Frys.com Open is not considered for the WGC-HSBC Champions, which will be played on the new course at Mission Hills this year.
Another way through which he can enter the field at the Olazabal course is by getting an alternate route but that looks very unlikely.
So the best possible chance for him is to keep things in his own hands and try to win at the McGladrey Classic.
