Can Kansas City Royals post threat to Detroit Tigers in AL Central – MLB News
In the past couple of weeks, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Indians have combined to add five pitchers to their pitching rotation. Of course, they needed to add quality pitchers to their rotation to stand any chance of reaching the
playoffs.
Indians, Royals and the Twins finished in the bottom three of the American League Central Division standings table. All three teams lost at least 90 games in the League. The Tigers have some of the best pitchers in their starting rotation.
In Justin Verlander, they have the best pitcher in the American League. The 2011 AL Most Valuable Player and Cy Young player is also a consistent and a reliable option. Max Scherzer, Doug Fister, Rick Porcello all showed the stuff they are capable of last
season.
“By sending four minor leaguers of various acclaim to Tampa Bay on Sunday, Kansas City obtained right-handers James Shields and Wade Davis. The Royals appear to have made themselves immediate contenders with their new starting pitchers. The Royals didn't
give up any major leaguers to get them,” Jon Lowe of free.com said.
“The Twins last Thursday traded centerfielder Ben Revere for Phillies right-hander Vance Worley and a minor league pitcher. (The week before, the Twins traded outfielder Denard Span to Washington for pitching prospect Alex Meyer.) Now the Twins are reported
to have signed free-agent right-handed starter Kevin Correia,” he added.
Additionally, the Tigers are pursuing Anibal Sanchez, who posted some impressive numbers for them in the last season. Sanchez, a free agent, hit the open to see if he can grab a long term and multimillion dollar deal.
If the Royals are going to win the AL Central Division, they will be looking to add quality pitchers to their rotation as pitchers are soul of baseball. Undoubtedly, they are making sacrifices. Late on Sunday, the Royals traded four Minor League prospects
to Tampa Bay Rays for pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis.
One of the prospects was the outfielder Wil Myers, the highly talked about Minor League player. With their move, the Royals instantly made themselves as contenders with an improved pitching lineup.
