Can Ken Duke pull off a surprise result at John Deere Classic?
Ken Duke is one of the senior pros at the PGA Tour. Turning pro in 1994, the guy has seen considerably during the course of his golfing career. Duke is all set to take part in the John Deere Classic, which is to tee off on the 12th of July.
There are many notable players taking part in the event, so a healthy competition will be witnessed by the fans.
So far this season, Ken Duke has not been very impressive. Although he has won some amount of prize money but his results are not very promising.
The big man has played in 20 events this season and his stats are just okay if we look at them. Duke managed the cut in 16 events, not bad at all. However, he has only 6 under-10 finishes. His best result was T5 at the Transition Championship.
Duke has an average scoring of 70.38 which is pretty decent.
Ken has not played John Deere Classic in the last two years. Moreover, in 2009, his performance at the TPC Deere Run was not very promising either.  He finished way below at T48. He shot an overall of 6-under but it was not enough.
TPC Deere Run is a fairly easy course as compared to others. It has a difficulty rating of 40 out of 51, but to succeed at this course one has to have to sound short game.
The reason for success at this tournament for Steve Stricker has been his short game. Steve has a very solid short game because of which he has been able to secure three consecutive titles at the TPC Deere Run.
Ken Duke’s run at the John Deere Classic in 2008 suggest that Duke can play surely at this course. Back in 2008, Duke shot an overall of 10-under and finished at T18.
Apart from Duke and Steve, many other players are ready to take on the challenge. Among them is last year’s third place holder, Zach Johnson.
Zach will be looking to go two steps further than last year and claim the title at the TPC Deere Run. Zach will also be looking to stop his rival, Steve Stricker, from claiming his fourth straight title at John Deere Classic.
Then, there are eight players who will enjoy home crowd advantage. They will also be looking to come up to the expectations of their supporters.
Among the locals are Blake Adams, Scott Brown, Will Claxton, Brian g*y, Charles Howell, Kevin Kisner, Patrick Reed and Vaughn Taylor.
Will Claxton will be looking to turn around his season. So far, he has had a disappointing season with just one under-10 finish at the Mayakoba Classic. This is probably his best chance to win a tournament this year because the golf course is relatively
easy and it suits his game.
Claxton too has a very sound short game, which will help him secure a strong position on the leaderboard.
Duke will need to pull up his socks this time around if he wants to end this season on a high note. He needs to sharpen his irons because it is the short game that counts the most at the TPC Deere Run. If he can manage good approaches to the pin and putt
well then surely he has a chance.
