Can Killdeer move their eggs to another nets?

I work around nesting Killdeer. Several times I have been watching a nest for a few days, then the eggs are gone. It's too soon for them to have hatched, there are no shell fragments, and no eggs.

  1. Our Killdeer eggs are gone this morning too.  The other night I sent my husband out to scare a racoon away from their nest- we woke up from the mother's noise so I'm hoping the racoon didn't come back.  It was close to hatching time so maybe they hatched but I don't know where the egg shells would be.

  2. Same here, the eggs are gone...no egg fragments! Could they have moved them in their beaks? I hope the predators didn't get them, we have had alot of Crows around and Squirrels (I know they eat eggs), it's sad!
