Tacking is a nautical term which means to sail (into) the wind by zigzagging at a 45-degree angle to the direction of the wind. This maneuver is different from sailing (across) the wind or sailing (with) the wind, the two most basic forms of sailing. I already know that wind surfers and sail boats can tack; but I was wondering if kite surfers can tack also.

  1. yes they can.

of course under specific circumstances such as hot air currents and such.

the youtube link i think the guy does it on purpose, nevertheless, prooving it's possible

  2. Yes, they can tack since kite power is no different than any other form of single mast vessel.  This is also true for kite power on land (buggy) or snow (ski) travel, you set an edge and you can cut into the wind.
