  1. no

  2. Lets look at what the statistics say;

    Lara currently holds the record with 11953 runs.

    You can extrapolate players current statistics to predict where they may end up.

    Lets assume that players will retire at 38 years of age. Looking at the recent Aussie retirements that seems fair.

    Assume that 12 Test matches will be played by each country each year (as per ICC rules; I realise that nowhere near that many will actually get played...)

    Then divide current number of runs of a player by number of Tests played to get a 'match average'.

    *Tendulkar: Currently 35yrs old,147 Tests; 11782 runs.

    -> 80.15 runs / match @ 12 games X 3 yrs gives an additional 2885 runs

    Tendulkar total = 14667 Test runs by 2011. (183 Tests)

    *Ponting: Currently 33yrs old,118 Tests; 10042 runs.

    -> 85.10 runs / match @ 12 games X 5 yrs gives an additional 5106 runs

    Ponting total = 15148 Test runs by 2013. (178 Tests)

    *Sangakkara: Currently 30yrs old, 73Tests; 6127 runs.

    -> 83.93 runs / match @ 12 games X 8 yrs gives an additional 8057 runs

    Sangakkara total = 14184 Test runs by 2016. (169 Tests)

    So by the looks of that Ponting should hold the record for some time.

    PS: I do realise that there are MANY factors that could change. The average runs / match used in the calculations encompasses their entire career. Ponting and Sangakkara are both averaging far more now than they did when they began. This should be ballanced somewhat by the fact that they will get worse (read; 'be less prolific') as they age.

    Also 12 matches per year may not actually be played. The sub-continent teams (especially India) play fewer Tests than the likes of Australia (barring the last year of course due to the abandonned Zimbabwe tour). Not to mention possible injuries etc...I'm not a fortune teller, merely a mathmatician!

  3. Kumar is really great player. He is one of the best test match player in this world. he really can break the the world record. But he need to work a bit hard...!! But he ofcoz can do it !!

  4. not 1ly him , if any 1 has the aim and works hard any1 can break both the bat and world record

  5. not at all.

  6. He's a super batsmen in super form.  I'm sure he can!

  7. YES

    he is the best at the moment

    he is da #1 hit in lanka at the moment mybe even above BnS

    lol

    we will cheer him on

  8. The highest individual score in test cricket is 400 runs scored by  Brian Lara.  The highest score made by Kumar Sangakkara so far from 73 test matches is 287 runs.  Hence, I strongly feel that he will not be able to break the record of Brian Lara.

    If you are tallking about most runs in test carreer, he will not be able to achieve that target also as he has so far scored only 6127 runs from 73 test matches,whereas the record for most runs in carreer in tesst cricket is 11953 runs scored by Brian Lara and he is far away from that target.

  9. Kumar if he can continue the form of last 2-3 years can end up as one of the all-time legends of the game. In my list of great batsmen, Kumar stands at all-time 8th rank which is very big. My ratings of top 10 test match batsmen are:

    Bradman - 100

    George Headley - 80.5

    JB Hobbs - 69.1

    MEK Hussey - 68.4

    BC Lara - 67.3

    Leonard Hutton - 66.4

    RG Pollock - 65.8

    KC Sangakkara - 65.5

    WR Hammond - 65.5

    Franklin Jackson - 65

    Kumar will certainly retire as a legend. Perhaps he will re-write cricket batting records. He can be the all-time highest run getter. It is between Kumar, Sachin and Ponting.

  10. I don't see why not.  In my opinion he's the best all-time wicketkeeper-batsmen behind Glichrist.

  11. Sachin Tendulkar might set the bar, Ricky Ponting and Kallis may try to challenge it,  but I am not sure Sangakkara will reach there
