Can Kyle Busch get 200 career wins?

Question

Before I get a bunch of angry responses, please read the whole question first.

First of all, I know it is impossible for him to get 200 cup victories. I'm talking about total combined career wins in NASCAR's top three series: Cup, Nationwide, and Trucks.

Richard Petty was able to rack up 200 wins because he ran in as much as 62 races in a year, and had as much as 27 wins in a season.

Right now for the season, Kyle has a total of 10 wins, 4 in Cup, 4 in Nationwide, and 2 in Truck. The season is about 1/3 of the way over, and if he stays on this pace, he can match those numbers.

So do you think Kyle can reach the magic number of 200 NASCAR wins? And if he can, do you think that it would be as special as Richard Petty's 200 wins.

Please back up your answer/opinion with intelligent thoughts and reasons for your take on this.

I think its somewhat possible. But don't be surprised if he didn't.

If he were to do that, he would have to win 8.5 wins per season every season for the next 20 years. If he were to divide it amongst the three series, that'd be 3 wins each series per season, but the likeliness of him running all 3 for his entire career is unlikely.

Given the fact that to date he has a total of 31 wins combined in the three racing series.

8.5x20=170+31=201

20 years from now he'll be 43 years old and still could very easily be winning races (Jeff Burton)

It's not impossible, but it wouldn't exactly be an easy accomplishment.

If you're counting all three series, he could do it. But it wouldn't be as special as Petty's 200 wins, because Petty's are all in the Cup series with the big boys (except denny hamlin).

No one will ever reach Petty's mark of 200 wins.  Back then they ran over 60 races a year and Petty once won 27 races in a year.  The competition wasn't nearly as strong as it is today.  Jeff Gordon is in his 16th year, won 40 races in a 4 year span (95-98), and he still has just over 80 wins.  NOBODY will ever reach 200 wins.

No. Simply because one year a team  may be hot and then the next year they're not. NASCAR has taken more control over the cars since Petty set those records. Teams just can't bring anything out there without NASCAR's approval and if NASCAR is serious about keeping the playing field level then this will never happen.

if he continues to run in all three series, then yes, of course he has a shot at 200 victories - across all three series.  he's only been racing 3 or 4 FULL years in the cup and nationwide series and only partial schedules in the truck series - and already he has 31 wins (8 cup, 15 nationwide, 8 truck), and most of them (17) have come since the beginning of 2007, 10 so far this year - and we're only 1/3 of the way through. over the past three years he has averaged running 68 races a year in the three series total.  at that clip, he could surpass 200 overall victories BEFORE he's 30, but that's not all that likely.  he's hot now, but he'll have some down time and slumps just like everyone else.

he did make a comment, half-jokingly, about retiring at 30, but what's he going to do then?  how many drivers have had plans of retiring at 40 and still couldn't get out of the cars, much less at 30.  

and i'm not sure about him wanting to race F1 at 30.  does someone have a source on that?  i've read and heard from him on interviews that he will be involved in an F1 test and a stock car demonstration with toyota in japan during the off-season, but that he has no plans on leaving nascar any time soon.

as for whether or not it would be as special as Richard Petty's 200 wins - well, i think it would be as special, but in a very different way.  petty was the king of the cup.  kyle would be what, the king of versatility?  i dunno what he'd be considered by then, but it would be a special accomplishment.  he's already the winningest "three series" driver of all time in a couple of different ways - he's won in all three series for four years in a row (only two other drivers won in all three series in a year - and only for one year).  he's also the only driver to win multiple times in each of the three series in a single year.

I think 100 is about the peak nowadays No one will get 200 When Petty did it he raced two three times a week and there is a lot of parody in cars now and too much talent I said shrub will when 50

While there have been some good answers the true answer is simply NO there are nowhere near the same amount of races as when Petty was driving yes Petty has 200 but he raced like well over 1000 to get there and as good as Bush is he isn't going to win every race for the next 10 yrs or so.

Only in his dreams, if anybody is going to get close to that in this racing era., it will probably be Jeff Gordon, but no one will ever be better than the King or Dale Earnhardt Sr.

no one can do that. the only reason the king did that is because he raced for like 40 years and they raced like 4 times a week. kyle races 3 times a week and wont race for 40 years. so he wont

Well he said he was going to retire at 30 so I would say no. even if he didn't I don't think any one will get close to The Kings record.Back in The Kings day they use to race 5 or 6 times a week so it would be next to impossible to do it these days.

David G has it right, Kyle said he wanted to go race F1 when he turns 30.  Even if he stayed in NASCAR I don't think he could do it, he cannot drive that way forever without consequences.  Other drivers will start wrecking him or he could get injured if he keeps up his aggressive style of driving.  Granted, he has not wrecked much in the Sprint Cup Series yet this year but he has been in several wrecks in the Nationwide and Truck series.

If he could keep going at the pace he's at for at least 10 more years, then yes, he could. That is going to be darn near impossible to do. If he stayed in Nascar for 20 years and could continue to win, it would be possible, but everyone in racing has good seasons and bad seasons. What he's doing right now in all 3 series is pretty incredible. I think if he did accomplish it, it would be more special because of all the different teams and cars involved.

I do not think it would be possible unless you total all his wins from truck, nationwide and cup lumped into it..

But deep down, I believe he will be close to 80-97

just my opinion, he has talent! and the gusto to WIN WIN WIN!!!!!

the way he is going i wouldn't be suprised to see him get 100 cup wins. he can get 200 wins easily in the three series, but i dont see it as the same as the king cause the truck and nationwide series are more easily dominated by cup drivers.

Only thing I see keeping him from doing so... is nascar getting a bead ,on the x-tra horses toyota has right now !!

I think he has a shot but will not pass 160. By no means will it be anywhere near Richard Petty's achievement but it will prove that he is a great driver.
