Can Kyle Stanley and Paul Lawrie find place in the Ryder Cup?
All the Europeans and Americans are willing to play the upcoming episode of the Ryder Cup, scheduled from September 25 to 30, 2012.
In order to be selected for the Ryder Cup’s team, one has to be competent and impressive on different courses. The selection criterion is so high and every golfer has to earn enough points to qualify.
This tournament is played every two years between the US and the European Team. Both teams have secured several wins and Europe is also the defending champion this year.
Kyle Stanley and Paul Lawrie are most likely to be part of the US and European Team, respectively. Both have been giving their best since January and increasing their points rapidly.
In my opinion, their impressive start of the current season is enough to give them a place in the leading tournament at Medinah Country Club, Illinois, USA.
Stanley, a 24-year-old American professional golfer, is on the second position of the US Team standings by earning 1,822.113 points.
He reached the handsome figures by winning the title of the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February.
He also played four tournaments at PGA this year and displayed an amazing performance in all the events. The runner-up position at the Farmers Insurance Open also benefitted him.
Finishing two events on the top position is impressive. He earned handsome points for finishing both events on the top.
There are ample chances for the American to play at the Ryder Cup this year. Stanley is certainly in good form these days and giving his best in the US.
However, the standings have not been finalised so far. There is still a long way to go and to assure the selection. Stanley will likely to remain competitive till September.
Now, coming towards the European Team standings makes it clear that Paul Lawrie is also among the strongest contenders to qualify.
He currently holds the fourth position at the European Points List and fifth at the World Points List.
The rule is: top-5 of both the lists will be selected for the team, where the captain has the authority to pick two players of his choice.
Lawire has a potential lead as he appeared in the top-5 of both the lists. He holds 1162631.62 points at European and 106.57 at world standings.
There are very less chances to be disqualified. He added attractive points on February 5, when he successfully won the title of Commercialbank Qatar Masters, a European Tour event.
Winning by four strokes is not so easy, but he displayed his excellence and achieved the glory. His top performances and commitment to golf is helping him in the selection process of the European Team.
The 43-year-old Scottish player has very less chances to fail, but he is not so confident about his selection. He is right to some extent, as there is a long way to go.
"If I can play well in the first dozen events, then I think you're going to have a little bit of a chance at it, but that is a long way away and I'd be foolish to say I'll make it," Lawrie said.
Their current standings call for a celebration. However, on the other hand, both players have to be more consistent to score massive strokes and gain lead over rivals.
To be at the Ryder Cup, the only possibility is to play and perform well at every tournament. Every single birdie and par is crucial. Similarly, every single bogey will harm the players' points.
Losing a game or finishing a tournament on a grim position can also become a hurdle. Hence, both players have to be more impressive till the final selection of the team.
