  1. I think only a RN registered Nurse can.

check out these websites, maybe the'll help

  2. That is a good question that I'm not sure if there is a clear answer too.  I can't even lean towards one answer, and it depends on that state's Nurse Practice Act.

I know that a LPN can work under the direct supervision of a physician or a RN.  I know that LPN can not do the initial teaching of a patient, nor do the initial assessment of a patient which leads me to say No.

Each state differs on what a LPN can and can't do.  In NC a LPN can handle controlled substances and start IV's.  At a nursing home there maybe LPN's in charge of a certain wing, however a RN must be somewhere in the facility even if a different wing ..but one has to be there at all times.

    Hope that helps.

  3. Absolutely, and in fact, many docs hire LPNs as they are cheaper.  In the office you would prepare patients for exams, assist with exams & procedures, teach patients, gives meds & shots, possibly do lab work, chart, do procedures (depends on the type of doc).

  4. yeah they can so the doctor can save money. I've seen the LPN as the office manager in a major orthopedic office. LPN is a stepdown from a RN. They basically do the same things as a RN except handle controlled substances. Certain states have regulations what a LPN can and cannot do so check on your state's laws. It can differ in starting IVs also.
