Can Lexapro just stop working for some?

I have been on Lexapro for 5 1/2 months now. At the start I noticed a slight improvement. However I am drifting back to my old ways, thoughts and patterns as before. I have said this to my doctor that I felt I was begining to go backwards instead of forward however he didn't say much. Dont get me wrong, he is an excellent doctor and trust is a huge issue for me but I trust him as much as I can and I wish to see no other doctor. I just want to be better. I hate feeling like I am. I am currently on 15mg of Lexapro. Can Lexapro just stop working? I am 21 years old - female and I often think of how life would be better if I were not here.

  1. it made me worse and i gave it two months to get better...it never did so i told my doc and he just upped the dose...which made it worse. You are going to have to tell him you refuse to take it anymore, that it isnt working, and you want to try something else. Dont let him just try to change your mind about it or tell you you dont really know. You have a right to have a say in your medical care. Dont wait til it gets too late. You may also want to consider looking for another doctor. i did and am much happier. And after all isnt that the point? Good luck!!

  2. same thing happened to me. it worked, and then i drifted back into major depression. my psychiatrist and therapist both said lexapro doesnt work well. my psychiatrist is putting me on prozac at my next visit

  3. From my experience, yes it can.

All the ADs I have been on have. After a while I become immune to them and so their effects wear off and the meds stop working, which is why I swap and change meds almost every few months because of that.

  4. Any medication can suddenly stop working. Tell your doctor that you don't think it's working and ask to switch to another medication. If he says no, you're going to have to put aside your trust issues and find someone else who will actually help you.

  5. I remember it was effective for me at 1st, but over time, it stopped working, & it gave me Restless Legs Syndrome.
