Can Louis Oosthuizen put up a decent show at the Travelers Championship?
Louis Oosthuizen, the South African professional golfer, has not had a very good season by his standards. He has played in eleven tournaments and managed to win only $1,535,067 this year.
The 2010 Open champion has struggled to get himself going on the golf course. It has been pretty hard for him to make the right shots at the right time.
The South African started his season with a T17 finish at the WGC Match Play and then failed to make the cut at the Honda Classic.
At the WGC-Cadillac, he again displayed a poor show. He shot an overall of 5-over par and finished way below at T60.
He improved his game and put up with a decent performance at the Transitions Championship. He shot a 7-under par and finished T20. This performance earned him $53,838.
His best form came in the months of March and April, where, at the Houston Open, he finished 3rd and shot a 14-under par to take home with him a handsome amount of $408,000.
His best performance of the year came at the Masters. He fell short of defeating the American Bubba Watson by a small margin.
It was by far his best performance so far in this season. The second place finish meant that the 29-year-old took home with him $864,000, after shooting a 10-under par.
After two strong finishes, at the Houston and the Masters, for some reason, his form deteriorated again.
He failed to make the cut in the next two events that he played, Players Championship and Byron Nelson.
At Crowne Plaza, he had a decent game play but then again, in the next two events, he failed to make the cut.
If we look at the overall performance of Louis Oosthuizen, we will come to know that the 20th ranked South African has played eleven events so far but managed to make the cut in only seven of them.
This surely was not expected from the 2010 Open Champion.
So far, he has only two top-ten finishes. Either he is not focusing properly, or there is some issue with his game.
Whatever the reason behind his lacklustre performance may be, it needs to be fixed immediately. Otherwise, things will only get worse for the 29-year-old South African.
Next up for him is the Travelers Championship. It is a good chance for him to get back into form before the Open Championship starts.
The competition will be quite tough at the TPC River Highlands, as quite a few big name players will be teeing off today.
Oosthuizen has never featured at the Travelers Championship before, so it would be a new challenge for him. Sometimes new challenges can revive the winning spirit of a player.
We never know what kind of a performance Louis will come up with. He is surely capable enough to go on.
Also, he can challenge the likes of Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson, and Hunter Mahan. All of them will be featuring at this year’s Travelers Championship.
This year has not been by impressive, although he has managed better prize money since last year. Nevertheless, that does not account for much.
It is the trophies and titles that count the most.
Judging by his performance this season, chances are very few that he will exhibit a decent performance. However, it cannot be said with certainty.  It is golf and anybody can come up with a surprise package at any time.
