Can MDD lead to Bipolar?

basically can any disorder lead to a different disorder?

like for me example, i had mdd, could it be possible that i have an episode that may lead to bipolar?

  1. Bipolar disorder is commonly diagnosed as MDD when the person is in a depressive state. If a person IS bipolar they can go from MDD to mania but only if the bipolar disorder already exists. Does anyone in your family have bipolar disorder? It does run in families.

    I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone feels like they are about to explode sometimes. Try running go to the gym to work it out of your system. If you are really worried about it do some research on bipolar, it is not at all like what you describe.


  2. Most people with bipolar start off with *recurring* depressive episodes.  The thinking, however, is that MDD does not turn into bipolar unless the bipolar was already there lurking in the background.  

    Yes, some disorders can lead to others particularly if they are in the same "family" of disorder.  For example, anxiety can lead to panic attackes, but both fall under anxiety disorder.
