I thought HIPPA disallowed them to find out about individuals medical history. Can they pry into your medical history prior to you signing up for boot camp (Navy)

  1. When you sign item #24 of Standard Form 93 (Report of Medical History) you are asserting that everything you filled out on that form was the truth under penalty of perjury. So, tell the truth. If you have been off the Adderall for a year or more and can document good academic and/or work performance during that period of being medication-free, it won't disqualify you. But, if you enter the armed forces and the symptoms of your ADD/ADHD manifest themselves, you will be given a general discharge under honorable conditions for having a pre-existing disqualifying medical condition. In addition your reenlistment code will be RE-4 and you will be barred from re-enlisting or enlisting in any other branch in the future.

The source below is the medical standard.

  2. Adderall is a form of amphetamine.  You will test postive for amphetamines if you do your U/A before the medication has a chance to cycle out of your system.  That could take up to a few months depending on how healthy you are.

  3. they CAN but unless they have a reason to they won't, MEPS see's thousands of kids and if they took the time to look into everyones medical past then nothing would ever get done.

  4. No, that sounds like it would be a violation of you right to privacy. Since I sold insurance many years ago, I can say this much. They could check for preexisting medical conditions but, the medications shouldn't be there. Unless, it's for an ongoing medical condition then a doctor worth his/her salt could figure it out.

But, since they have so many recruits coming in they will likly over look it. This being if you can pass the physical.
