Question:

Can Management be part of the union?

i dont want to say it was a fight, but my friend said that management was part of the union...i said, i dont believe management can be in the union....

i dont know anyone who works in a union so i figured id ask on here....

  1. It depends on what you mean by "management."  The owners of a business cannot be members of a union.  They would be negotiating with themselves if they were, so that makes no sense.

    However, a union can represent employees who are members of management.  Foremen, office directors, newspaper editors, school principals, and other "managers" can be in a union, or they might even have their own union.  The distinction comes over whether these managers have any say in granting or denying the union's demands.  As long as they are employees with respect to the company, they can be in the union, even though their jobs require them to manage other people.
