Can Manny Pacquiao Defeat Floyd Mayweather
Being unbeaten in boxing is an amazing feat. Even the best boxers in the world lose sometimes; they all fall to the ground and sometimes can never be the same again. Being unbeaten in boxing is a very hard thing to achieve just because of the sheer number of skilled fighters out there. Floyd Mayweather has managed to remain undefeated and stand tall as a boxer who cannot be defeated by anyone out there but the fans think Manny Pacquiao can do the impossible. In the category that Mayweather falls in, the welterweight division, there are some really good fighters: Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto are just a few of the greats in this weight class. So to remain undefeated in this class is one tough act to maintain.
Floyd Mayweather is a boxer who has over the course of his career managed to remain undefeated. “From July 18, 2005 through June 2, 2008 he was rated by The Ring magazine as the number-one pound for pound boxer in the world. Mayweather has won nine world boxing championships in five different boxing weight classes; he is the former WBC welterweight champion, a title he vacated upon his retirement. He was named Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year in 1998 and 2007. Mayweather is undefeated with 41 wins including 25 by knockout,” (Wikipedia)

When you are undefeated, everyone wants a piece of you. You have to stay on top of your game, train harder and become fitter and try to bring something new to the ring every time. Some champs become very cocky and arrogant, Mayweather is in that league but that cockiness is what attracts fans to the fights. The arrogance that comes along with being the best is not easy to leave and get rid of. Once it gets into you it stays. That arrogance can also be a boxer’s downfall because once he starts thinking they are the best, they start to feel that nothing can happen to them and in that state of arrogance they lose sight of what they are trying to do in the ring and inevitably end up getting caught with a strong jab or a right hook and down they go, 10 count, KO, winning streak over.
There is no question Mayweather is very arrogant but he is also very talented. Critics say his fights are handpicked but since his defence is so good, hardly any fighter gave him run for his money. This is the main problem; people have watched so many Rocky movies they want a true bulldog, someone who has to struggle to win his fights, who falls, gets knocked out but has the strength and willpower to get up and still win.
In a recent welterweight super fight against Shane Mosely, Mayweather almost got knocked out in the second round but came back well to win the fight on decision. Most fans believe Manny would have followed that knock with loads of well directed blows leaving Mayweather on the ground for the 10 count.
Boxing fans now want the head to head match between Manny and Mayweather, imagine the excitement and exhilaration of two very physically fit athletes going toe to toe in a ring trying to knock each other’s head off. Every great fighter has an equally great rival who is willing, ready and able to stand toe to toe; Muhammad Ali had to stand in front of Joe Louis to ink his name in the history books. In a similar manner, only way Mayweather can be considered true great is, if he steps in the ring with Manny.
One thing is for sure; every fight Mayweather wins, the fans want showdown with Manny. Will it ever happen, my money is on Yes.
