I got medicaid when I iwas pregnant. Im not being served with papers saying I have owed this hospital/credit collections money for almost a year. I thought medicaid covered that. I guess I just need to know more about medicaid!

  1. if its like things u dont need for example plastic sugurey insurance wont cover it

if it is on something u really need like hernia repair they will cover it

  2. Well, it's run on a state by state basis.

Many times, if you're on it for the pregnancy, through your state CHIPS program,  any non-pregnancy related health issues are NOT covered.

  3. You need to find out whether the charges were billed to Medicaid.

If the hospital didn't have your Medicaid info, they may be able to bill you.

If the services were after your Medicaid eligibility expired, they can likely bill you.

If you had services done which aren't covered by Medicaid under any circumstances, they can likely bill you.

First step is for you to find out whether Medicaid was billed.  Next step is to find out why Medicaid denied the claim.  (If they denied the claim.)

  4. If the provider did not have your medicaid info or does not accept medicaid, you are responsible for the services rendered. However, you should have been billed by the hospital prior to ir being assigned to collection. You may be able to apply for financial assistance through the hospital even though it has been assigned to collection. Contact them ASAP to see.
