Can Microsoft's SYNC be installed in any car?

I know that Ford/Mercury have exclusive rights until November, but will a portable model be available that can be installed in any car?

  1. well i don't think they will make any after market units but you might be able to install in any car if u find a whole setup, might have to do some custom fabricating, but also remember that other head units that has the same features but no powered by Microsoft

No.  As of now, the Sync program is exclusive to Ford.  Microsoft has made no mention of making a mobile/portable model available at any time.  In addition, Ford has the potential to extend the exclusivity if they wish to.  Also, the Sync system is actually wired into the entire vehicle.  It has additional capabilities aside from the ones currently in use and they prohibit a simple portable version.  It could be possible for Microsoft to offer current capabilities in a portable version, but the full Sync system is capable of much more than you are seeing now.
