Can Mike Redmond make a difference to Miami Marlins? - MLB Part 2
He has shown the consciousness with regard to the state of the prevailing affairs and the critical juncture of its history the club is passing through.
It is interesting to note that the Marlins have suddenly realised that banking on a sole manager is wrong. While previously maintaining the competitiveness of their team, they have now understood the reality of having below par players on their roster.
Their President for Baseball Operations, Larry Beinfest spoke out the truth the other day, confessing that they need to go through a series of improvements in order to claim the Division title one day.
Stressing upon the need to be patience, finally the reality has hit the sub-consciousness of Beinfest.
"I don't think we're there where we can talk about contending," Beinfest said. "It's not that we can't. I just don't want to be outward with it. We finished in last the last two years. I don't think it's realistic for me to come and say to you with credibility
we're going to contend next year. We need to improve next year and if that means contending, then so be it. I was thinking about our fans, the old be patient with us. This is the big leagues.”
As Beinfest gets realistic, he in a way has criticised all those officials that have been setting high expectations for the fans in the last few years.
Regardless of whether the owner Jeffrey Loria has noted it or not, his actions have been condemned by one of his own officials. He has been conveying a message in an indirect manner by Beinfest that he has done nothing to build the club on solid grounds.
The very stability that Beinfest aims to bring in the club has been ruined by the man he unfortunately is working under. Loria stands responsible for the laughing stock that the Marlins have become today due to the frequent changes seen in their club after
every year.
Loria has made the Marlins as part of the third world, similar to the one that we see internationally where the stronger countries mock at the childish moves of the developing nations.
As Beinfest unveils his earnest intent to let the Marlins pass through an evolutionary phase and head toward success this way, one can feel pity on him against the backdrop of the greedy attitude of the owner. Loria is more like a short-sighted businessman
who focuses more on pocketing money wherever it comes from even if that means neglecting real needs of the club.
For example, he will ascertain that a player is traded if he can result into an immediate inflow of the cash, irrespective of the ambitions of the coaching staff with regard to extracting contributions from the same individual in the matches.
Dealing with Loria will be extremely difficult for Redmond.
The fact Redmond is inexperienced at this level gives a reason to believe that he will be pliable, which means that Loria can easily sideline him while continuing with his old decision-making strategy.
Indeed, Redmond confronts the mammoth task of producing results in the club where the structure is highly centralised and an individual’s assertiveness is discouraged.
In the face of limitations, the best Redmond can do is creating a fighting spirit in the players and strengthening the resolve in them of battling hard in all sorts of circumstances.
