Can NOT getting spark plugs replaced cause serious engine damage?

I have missed a service at my local Ford Garage. This has in turn voided my warranty. I have been told damage will cost in excess of £2,500. Is this possible?

  1. If your engine is still running perfectly then i suggest you take it to a local garage for a service and it will probably cost you a fraction of that amount quoted. If your car has a fautly engine then i suggest you get a second opinion and a third then you be able to access your financial options.

  2. No. Having no oil in the engine can cause serious engine damage.

  3. Unless they physically start to break up due to overheating, there's little chance of too-old plugs actually damaging an engine. All thet would happen would be the car just wouldn't perform as well as it should if the plugs are sooty or the gaps incorrectly set.

  4. Sounds like an excuse to cop out of warranty, firstly spark plugs do not fail just over the service threshold or they would have massive warnings printed on the packaging, if you have a problem with warranty work and they are using the excuse that a spark plug caused the damage, write (recorded delivery) to the spark plug manufacturer and ask their opinion. If you are a member of the AA or AAA then get them involved as they have legal, and servicing experts at your disposal but this is typical behaviour of a main agent. Its a bit strange that the word agent is derived from the Latin word agere, meaning to do, one thing about main agents is they do their level best,NOT to do, unless you are paying a huge amount of money for the privilege. I am at this moment driving a Ford Fiesta that I took in part exchange (Zetec engine) and the plugs have not been changed for 20,000 miles (two years) I hope that puts this in perspective.

  5. Price of plugs, under fifteen pounds...

Price of engine, waaaaaay over fifteen pounds.

Price of engine damage when plug breaks down and fragments in cylinder, wrecking engine...  LOTS!

    Change your plugs!!

  6. why cant they get the plugs out?. take some pb blaster and spray around the plugs, let it soak and if it comes down to it, use a breaker bar.

  7. Knackered spark plug mean the engine won't start cos ya ignition wont work.
