  1. Nope.  I don't know if there's really much rhyme or reason behind a middle ear infection.  I used to get them a lot as a young person, sometimes accompanying a cold or sinus infection.  Maybe the pressure causes it.

  2. no it can not I have had this in the past and it diffidently was not from lack of hygiene, I cleansed my ears too much and the DR. said that u should only cleanse them 2 or 3 times a week

  3. hello, No it can not be caused from lack of hygiene.

  4. yes otits media is a middle ear infection  and no its not a hygeine issue. its an infection cause by fluid build up in your ear behind the ear drum. the fluid can contain bacteria. when the eustacian tube(small ventilation tube attach to the inside of your ear) fails to properly ventilate the fluid build up can cause infection

most ear infections are caused by a secondary infection in which you first had a head cold, allergies or physical abnormalities with your ears/sinuses. I have had about a dozen middle ear infections. I do not have poor hygeine. I have never heard of hygeine ever being an issue for ear infections.

  5. Indirectly, I suppose a lack of hygiene could be a factor, since it is usually associated with flu virus, strep throat and colds.  Proper hand washing and germ control can eliminate some of these.

Most often it is young children who suffer from otitis media and they are not reliable about covering their mouths while coughing or sneezing, or properly disposing of tissues.

Otitis media develops when there is a build-up of fluid in the middle ear cavity. The eustachian tube, a key element in the inner ear connects the middle ear to the back of the nose and normally balances pressure in the ear. It also pushes mucus and debris away from the middle ear. When the eustachian tube is blocked with mucus, air cannot flow through the ear, fluid accumulates and bacteria can grow.
