Question:

Can PC core components get burnt by testing other already burnt components on them?

I had an accident a while ago, and my motherboard caught fire on a small spot around the USB plugin (no physical damage on any other component is visible), plus my Power Supplier was burnt. Is there any chance that all other components were burnt too, because of the system's voltage or anything?

Well, anyway, I 'm buying a new Motherboard, CPU and Power Supplier. If I test my previous Graphics card and RAM on that semi-new system, is there any way the new core components might be damaged if the former are?

  1. I think so

  2. There is a risk, yes. There might be short circuits.

  3. If there's been a short-circuit formed in the components as a result of previous damage, then yes it's quite possible as that could sink far too much current where it shouldn't be going in the first place and burn out some, otherwise working, components.

  4. If it caught fire chuck it, it's not worth the risk damaging something else. Shorting one thing out on a motherboard could thrown the circuitry of something else off. Most of the time, the motherboard needs everything functional in order to operate.
