Question:

Can Parakeets Go Blind in the Dark?

My two parakeets Paco and Perry, I've had them for about 4-5 months. However, whenever I put them in the dark for a long time, their eyes (both of them) have a white/gray circle band around it. And I noticed that when they have this band around their eyes, my parakeet Perry (who doesn't let anyone hold/pet her) lets me pet her on the back with my finger. Then, after a few minutes, they are back to normal. Doesn't that mean she can't see? Does this happen often? It only happens when I leave them in the dark for a long time.

Does this happen to most budgies?

  1. i own a bird my self so no they dont go blind in theydark its just hard for them to see just like we cant see in the dark. they probably are scared so thats why your bird is letting you pet it. just as their eys go back to normal so should they you have nothing to worry about.
