Can Rabbits actually Swim?

Question

Well i know they can swim because i have seen them swimming in videos on youtube, but what I'm really wondering is, do they normally do it, do they enjoy it, or is it actually frightening and they only do it because in their minds its swim or drown

No rabbits don't normally swim on their own. My rabbits don't even like getting their feet wet. I would not suggest making a rabbit learn to swim.

I'm sure it would frighten the bunny.  Their body is not designed to swim.  Imagine a kangaroo trying to swim..not going to work out.  Unless you want to be very cruel and possibly end up with a drowned rabbit, don't get any ideas about tossing him in the pool.

i tested that as a science fair project and to my results i foud that rabits can swim in big bodies of water.i put my rabbit into my sink that is about 1 and a half feet deep.he swam ever so hapily and didn.t even try to get out of it. he was just swiming in circles of joy. so to my surprise i found out that rabits can swim but no more than in a foot of water.(by the way my rabbit was 1 year old when i did this)

I have never seen a rabbit swim! And I strongly advice you not to test your rabbit. Most rabbits hate water. I am sure there is a few rabbits out there that like it, but its not common at all! e-mail us with any more questions.. [e-mail]

They will get a shock of the water and it could course a attack for them they would get to frightend it depends if that bun likes water or not

It's extremely frightening to them and some will have heart attacks and die when put into water, or go into shock.  If a rabbit does 'swim', it's only a survival instinct.  Rabbits are so terrified of bodies of water that you should not even bath a rabbit unless medically necessary.

I don't think so, when they go into the cooking pot they usually sink.

I saw a dead rabbit floating in a pond, so I don't think they can swim.
