government to legislate reproductive decisions is a big public issue for voters considering the candidates for top office? That it is a separate issue from Bristol Palin's private life (and that no one wants to be "smearing children")? If Sarah Palin is running for VP and wants to push her morals into other people's families, how are her supporters surprised that her family life becomes an issue? Now, if she was a strict Libertarian and had always wanted everybody to mind their own business, it would be a different discussion....do you agree or disagree?

  1. aqgree the hypocracys is a crock

  2. I don't find her pushing any morals on anyone.  She has her beliefs, has voiced them.  She allowed creationism to be taught alongside evolution in the public school in the town she was mayor.  It was at the discretion of the teacher whether to implement that curriculum.  It was never taught, but it is on the books to appease a group of constituents that felt it was importatnt not to close that door.  It was a brilliant political move by Palin.

How pushy is she with her morals and her beliefs, if even her daughter was not compelled to comply?

  3. First off, here's the link that shows Palin, while staunchly pro-life, is also pro-contraception:

Second: If your morals cause you to have a stand on abortion, somebody's morals are being pushed down someone else's throat.

What you fail to understand, in your Libertarian analogy, is that to the pro-life movement, there truly is a life at stake. The analogy only works if the Libertarian Party believes that if I want to kill the guy next door, it's not their business.

Sorry...can't find that in their literature.

GORGEOUSTX: Really? So without 'fundies' there would be no morals? So you're saying that nobody but 'fundies' has any morals? I mean...your words, not mine.

Interesting. Bet you're popular at the clubs...

  4. No such thing as a strict anything, give it up. If you were, you wouldn't post socialist ideals. You sir, are no libertarian..

  5. what I think we all can agree on is the facts..She has been a leading advocate for Abstinence..so much so that they don't teach s*x ed in the school system in Alaska..Now obviously her values didn't spread among the family tree..That is her daughters choice..However, if her own child doesn't believe in her mother how is the rest of us suppose to believe in her?

  6. Agree

  7. These republicans are the first one to attack a candidates values. It's funny how they squirm when it's there own candidates values that are being attacked. You know that Shawn Hanitiys and Rush Limpballs would have a field day if this was one of Biden's kids. So it adds even more hypocrisy to the whole proceedings of them telling us to back off.

  8. I totally agree.

It is the religious nut jobs that have made "morals" a big issue, and when one is shown to no be so moral it should be exposed.

I do not blame Bristol because her mother never taught her about birth control.

  9. Definitely agree

  10. Agree. It is one of her big selling issues and she has shown it won't work. I don't see anyone criticizing the daughter really - just the mother for being morally superior and having to spin this.

  11. agree as well!!

IT scares me this nation knows nothing about her.

  12. No, the fact is that now if Palin were to push for abstinence she would now be seen as a hypocrite.  Her daughter did make a choice, however it was Palin's responsibility to see to it that she did not have s*x and have a baby at this age, if she indeed is an advocate for abstinence.  So I think at this point Palin needs to let this blow over.  She needs to put the focus on the real issues rather than her daughters pregnancy, because all it will do is weaken the chances of McCain becoming president.

  13. Stop panicking and check your facts.

A lot of people who are accused of pushing for "abstinence only" programs in schools simply want to rein in some of the curricula that are used which exceed the limits that they think are reasonable for their children.

Some of the programs teach things that some people have legitimate objections to.

You may not agree with their objections but they have a right to them and they have a right to decide what is and is not taught to their children about s*x.

Parents are free to teach their own children about various forms of birth control at home or have them learn it in venues of their own choosing.

The public schools require all students to take standardized courses which kids may not opt out of.

The information is forced on children and may be in conflict with their beliefs.

Why should people be allowed to push their values on these children?

I had problems with the classes and it had NOTHING to do with religion.

BTW, most Alaskans are pretty libertarian, even the Republicans.  They are mind-your-own-business types. Very much like old-school Republicans.

You would probably like the Palins far more than you'd like Obama or Biden.

  14. 'Abstinence Only' is a talking point to get young people to set a goal. It is not some kind of punishable offense.

  15. I love how a candidate brings her family into the issues (claiming she would not support abortion even if her daughter was raped) then cries foul when others do the same.

The difference? Her daughter was only 14 when she trotted her out to make a political point.

I think the fact that they covered Bristol's pregnant stomach with a blanket and her baby brother brings into question their honesty when they claim ""We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents".

Palin is for abstinence only education, which is what was taught at the school her daughter attended. I believe asking the mother of a pregnant teenager if she still believes abstinence only education is preferable to teaching teenagers about pregnancy prevention is fair game.
