Can Rick Adelman become the saviour for the Minnesota Timberwolves? NBA Special (Part-1)
The struggling Minnesota Timberwolves’ have officially brought Rick Adelman as a head coach. This announcement was made on 13th September 2011. This was one of the biggest news which hit the media during this NBA offseason.
Adelman is hugely experienced and has spent almost 20 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) coaching four different NBA sides along the way. His arrival in Timberwolves will greatly help the team in the upcoming seasons.
The Timberwolves’ last season’s performance was the worst performance in their franchise history. They lost total 65 and won only 17 games in the 2010-2011 regular season and finished last in the season. This led to the firing
of former head coach Kurt Rambis and hence began a hunt for the successor.
After months of deliberation, Adelman finally agreed to take the reins of the young team. In the past, he led the Houston Rockets, the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento kings and the Portland Trail Blazers, taking the latter to
the NBA finals.
Adelman started his coaching career in 1988. A professional basketball player himself, Adelman soon realised that he is more comfortable coaching other players. He started his coaching career from Chemeketa Community College in
Salem, Oregon and very soon he was hired as assistant coach by the Trail Blazers. He stayed in Portland till 1993 and then joined the Golden State Warriors in 1995.
The real emergence of Rick Adelman as a head coach came during his approximately seven years’ tenure in the Sacramento Kings. His coaching was phenomenal and he transformed the Kings into a top side during his stint and the Kings
made it into the playoffs eight times.
Adelman, who is 945-616 in over 19 seasons, is currently eight on the NBA’s career win list, but now the expectations are even higher.
