Can Robert Rock win his second title this year?
After winning the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in January, Robert Rock is looking to bag another European Tour title this year.
The 34-year-old English professional golf player is playing maximum number of the tournaments this year. He is hoping to record another win in the current European Tour season.
However, here the question will be, can he manage to win again this year?
This may be a tough question to answer. However after looking at his performance since January, it will be relatively easier to decipher if he is a winner or not.
Rock turned professional in 1998 and played most of the time on the European Tour. He has not recorded several victories, but only two so far.
It was 2011, when he first recorded a triumph by winning the BMW Italian Open. He scored 21-under par and 267 strokes in total and defeated Gary Boyd and Thorbjørn Olesen with a one-stroke lead.
He played 32 events last year and BMW Italian Open was his only win. He failed to impress the spectators in the rest of the tournaments, as he was unable to compete against the world top class players.
However, he paced up his performance and improved his game in the current year. He played 4 events up till now and displayed several amazing performances since day-one.
Rock won the title of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship by scoring 13-under par and 275 strokes in total.
He defeated the world greatest player, Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland, with a one-stroke lead.
In the rest of the tournaments, he had finished on the 9th, 12th and on 51st positions respectively. Hence, he is delivering his best at the European Tour and enjoying the good finishes.
Now he is playing the exciting tournament of the Open de Andalucía Costa del Sol at the Aloha Golf Club, Andalucia in Spain.
His presence in the field is a direct threat to the others. As the current world top ranked players are not in the field and making the competition less competitive.
The absence of many players creates ample chances for the English player to impress the spectators, with his improved and appealing strokes.
Round-one of the tournament was played on March 15 and Rock competed amazingly against the others. He scored 3-under par and 69 strokes in total on Thursday.
He carded four impressive birdies and mostly stayed at par throughout the day. He managed to deliver his best and only scored one bogey on the fifth hole.
At day-end, he tied for the 14th position with many others, but has several chances to defeat them on Friday, in the second round.
His scoring average and accuracy is one of the best at the Aloha Golf Club. His overall performance is up to the mark.
All he needs is to put in some extra effort while playing on the greens and fairways.
On the other hand, putting also helps a player to score birdies. Improved putting will lead to more birdies and he can pace up his scores from Friday onwards.
He is confident to make the 2012 season more attractive and memorable. He is doing well and only has to maintain his performance, with slight improvements as well.
Hence, he can be a winner of Open de Andalucía Costa del Sol and if not, then it is highly expected that he will finish among the top-10 on the leaderboard.
After this Spanish tournament, he will also play the rest of the European Tour events and has several chances to win the second title.
