Can Rocks Collapse? I know they can get weathered away after millions of years but can they just crumble away, by natrual causes not because of man.

  1. Well rocks can indeed just crumble away, I've seen the result and collected specimens. Here is a good website that explains how Saprolite forms.

  2. i supose they can,

if another rock hits it, or it gets struck by lightning,

had a big crack in the middle and fall apart

  3. Cliffs and overhangs collapse quite frequently - it is a natural result of weathering weaking the rocks, and the effects of gravity.  Some softer rocks can crumble away quite quickly and other harder rocks take thousands of years to be reduced to sand and dust. Some rocks dissolve in water (limestones).  This goes on all the time without any input from man.
