I have heard from various sites/forums that Savannah monitors CAN be tamed and many that blah blah blah never trust a wild animal and I would like to know the truth. Thanks.

  1. they can be tamed for the most part. I have never been bit by mine. He was a little more active as a young guy but as they get older, they will urinate and p**p less when you hold them. they will also calm down w/ more attention and touch. Now it is always possible that you may get bit for any random reason but you can go the monitors whole life w/out being bit as long as you're careful.

  2. well i heard a lovely saying the other day... 'no reptile is truly tame. no reptile likes humans, they simply tolerate us'

  3. My Savannah was a mean guy a year ago this is when he was about 7inches. He was scared because I was so much bigger then him, He would hiss, tail whip, puff his body up, and bite at me. I took the time out hanging around the tank to get him comfortable with me, and feeding him before trying to touch was a good way to calm him down. He let me hold him for about 20mins before he felt the need to be back on the ground.

Now I have had him for one year and I can open his tank tap the substrate and he'll come running out. I let him free roam my room when I have company because he lost his fear of humans and he's extremely friendly. I do not know if this is odd for a savannah to do but he tripod to see what's going around the room in his tank or when we're in the backyard hanging in the grass.

Sorry for dragging this on but I love my savannah and yes they can become extremely tamed. The more you interact with them the calmer they'll become!!!!!

    hope this helps!!!!!!
