Can Sebastian Vettel beat Michael Schumacher’s record? – Formula 1
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has claimed his third successive world drivers’ championship title in the 2012 Formula 1 season and has now been compared with the legendary driver, Michael Schumacher who has taken retirement from the sport.
Vettel has performed remarkably well in his career until now and has impressed everyone with his amazing performances. He has been considered as the most talented youngster in the sport who has won three titles just in the age of 25.
However, there are many who believe that the veteran German driver is not one of the great drivers in F1 as he has claimed the championship titles because he had the most competent car in the field.
The three-time world champion completely dominated during the preceding season in which he scored 11 grands prix victories. Conversely, he struggled with his pace during the start of this season because the Milton Keynes based team failed to create full
understanding about RB8’s design due to the changes in the rules and regulations by FIA.
Nonetheless, their chief technical officer, Adrian Newey who has got some extraordinary skills, successfully developed the most competitive car towards the conclusion of the season, which helped Vettel in attaining superb results in the last few races and
he won the title in the end.
Additionally, it will be important to mention that the 25-year-old faced immense difficulties in the Brazilian Grand Prix as his exhaust was damaged in the opening lap because of his collision with Bruno Senna of Williams. Nonetheless, he kept on fighting
hard and claimed the championship title after securing sixth place finish in the season finale. Furthermore, he was 3 points ahead of his major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari in the championship standings.
After Vettel’s close fight with Alonso during this season, the team principal, Christian Horner expressed that he is extremely pleased with the performance of his team and praised the driving skills of the German.
In addition, Horner has said that it is very hard to break the record of the seven-time world champion, Schumacher who has accomplished so much in his career in F1.
“It's difficult to see any driver beating 91 wins and seven championships,” Horner told AUTOSPORT.
Nevertheless, he said that Vettel has attained marvellous results in his career so far and is surely capable enough of achieving more in the future.
“Sebastian is 25, has three world championships, 26 wins from 101 starts, more than 40 podiums, 34 poles; he's had a remarkable career so far,” he said.
“We are yet to see the best of him,” he insisted.
“There's a much more level playing field in terms of everyone having the same tyres, the same amount of testing, limited engines,” he added. “Only time will tell what Sebastian is capable of in the future but the exciting thing is we are yet to see the best
of him.”
Former F1 driver, Niki Lauda has also said that the star driver has got some amazing talent with which he can achieve greatness in the coming years.
Besides, Lauda dismissed all the speculations which state that Vettel performs well only because of his car and asserted that he has the abilities to attain competitive results in any kind of circumstances.
Let’s see whether the triple world champion succeeds in breaking the record of his compatriot in the future or not.
