Can Sergio Perez come up to the expectations of McLaren in 2013? – Formula 1
Sergio Perez, who is currently in Sauber, has signed a new multi-year contract with McLaren and is going to drive as Jenson Button’s teammate from 2013 onwards.
Lewis Hamilton’s contract with the Woking based team is going to expire at the conclusion of this season and after the Singapore Grand Prix, he announced that he will move to Mercedes in the next year as Michael Schumacher’s replacement who has decided to
take retirement at the end of 2012.
Even though, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that they tried everything to keep the British driver in their squad for the coming year. Nonetheless, he said that they are not feeling disappointed and just after the confirmation of Hamilton’s
move, he announced that they have signed a new deal with the Mexican driver and are positively looking forward to perform well in the next season.
 Furthermore, he said that their next year’s driver line-up which include, Perez and Jenson Button has got the potential to win the championship titles.
In addition, he admired that driving skills of the 22-year-old and said that he is undoubtedly one of the most talented youngsters in the sport. Besides, he said that the young driver has got what it takes to be a world champion and they are have full faith
in his abilities.  
“Sergio is very young and we hope to have a very busy winter with him to prepare,” Whitmarsh said. “If we give him a good enough car, I don't see why he can't turn up in the first race in Australia vying for a win. I don't think he will consider himself
an apprentice. I think he will be a quick learner and, of course time will tell on this, but we're optimistic and ambitious for him next year.”
“He's very intelligent and humble individual - and we think he has greater potential than what he has shown so far,” he added.
It will be important to mention that former F1 driver, Niki Lauda also expressed that Perez has the potential to achieve greatness in his future. Additionally, the three-time world champion also predicted that the youngster will definitely make his way into
a bigger team prior to his agreement with the British team.
Let’s see whether he will be able to come up to the expectations of McLaren in the next year or not.
