  1. Are you joking or being serious ??

Today when I was in work a visitor was reading one of our leaflets and saw the phrase 'sinus tachycardia' and asked me if her daughter could have heart problems because she had problems with sinus congestion, she was asking a serious question.

I politely explained the difference, if this is a serious question I will explain.

  2. When to Seek Medical Care

Call a doctor when experiencing pain or pressure in the upper face accompanied by nasal congestion or discharge, postnasal drip, or ongoing bad breath unrelated to dental problems.

Fever can be a symptom of a sinus infection or a cold. Simple congestion with a low-grade fever probably indicates a cold and may not call for medications or antibiotics. Those also experiencing facial pain or headaches may have a sinus infection.

  3. When you hear the word sinus in relation to the heart, it is referring to the sinoatrial node that generates the impulse which causes the heart to contract. This term is shortened by calling it the sinus node and is often misunderstood by people outside of the medical field.

However there is a relation to your heart and sinus congestion when you consider the medication that is taken for this type of problem. Some sinus medication have a stimulant effect and over time, if taken frequently and for long periods can have a negative effect on the heart. Discuss medications with your doctor or pharmacist before taking them. I hope this helps.
