Can SomeOne Please Identify This Grub? (pic included)?

...Its been eating the "Trunks" of our Hibiscus shrubs (Not the leaves) & when you break off a branch its like a sawdust substance. Can someone please tell us what type of grub it is, is it much of a hazard & who do we call/what do we do about it? thnx!

  1. You are right it isn't very clear but it looks like a grub we have here in New Zealand and here it's called a huhu grub.(pronounced who who). Usually found in dead pine trees and other fallen trees. They eventually change into a big brown beetle that flies at night. If the beetle hits something and falls to the ground landing on it's back they cannot right themselves. The beetle usually is on the wing round end of spring into summer.

    The grub you pictured was and is still eaten by Maori once cooked. Never tried one myself but they say they have a nutty flavor.
