Can Somebody please explain "The Departed" to me?

Question

I've watched the movie but still don't exactly know the relationship between Nicholson, Decaprio, and Damon....Are they good or bad? Whose working for who?

All of these characters are turncoats:  Nicholson is a mobster who is an informant to the FBI, DiCaprio is a State Trooper who is an undercover thug and mobster, and Damon is a State Trooper who is working for and leaking info to the Mob and Nicholson.  DiCaprio is the only character who remains faithful to his assignment and is the film's "hero."

It is a tough movie to follow.  See it again.  You pick up alot more on the second viewing.  If you have the DVD, see the special tracts about the history upon which the film was loosely based.

Nicholson is the head gangster, Damon is working for him giving him inside police info. Dicapprio is a good guy.
