  1. Petrol and diesel cars registered on or after March 1st 2001 are now based on your cars CO2 emissions (carbon dioxide):

    Band A= up to 100 g/km = no tax payable

    Band B= 101-120 g/km = £35 for 12 months

    Band C=121-150 g/km = £120 for 12months £66 for 6 months

    Band D= 151-165 g/km = £145 for 12 months £79.75 for 6 months

    Band E= 166-185 g/km = £170 for 12 months £93.50 for 6 months

    Band F= Over 185 g/km = £210 for 12 months £115.50 for 6 months

    Petrol or diesel cars registered before this date are based on engine size:

    Under 1549 cc = £120 for 12 months £66 for 6

    Over 1549 cc = £185 for 12 months  Ã‚£101.75 for 6

    It goes by how much emissions your vehicle now produces.

    The more it omits, the higher your tax would be.

    It should say on your V5, how much your emissions your car omits.
