Question:

Can Someone Help With My Tennis Serve?

I recently attended a tennis camp and on the last day they changed my serve grip. Now it won't go in at all-My town does not offer private lessons or coaches-it's all me...Should I use my old grip that went in but apparently did not have enough topspin or do you have ideas/drills to help with the new one?

  1. I had that done as well. They changed your grip so it's like the same as your backhand grip? that's what they did for me. It screwed me over for a couple of months till I got the hang of it.

If you're actually really into tennis and plan to play it competitively in the future keep working at the changed grip and you'll eventually get it with more topspin.

Just into social tennis? bit of fun? go back to your old one. lot less hassle

  2. i went through the exact same thing as you. although it is frusterating now because the ball won't go in, keep practicing EXACTLY what you learned it might take a month or so to get the hang of it so don't give up!

  3. Ah, I see. My coach did this to me before.

It's easy, you just have to work at it, hold the racquet w/the new grip and once you make contact w/the ball after you throw it up (for a serve), you need to flick your wrist in the direction you're trying to serve to.

Make contact w/your racquet flat against the ball, then flick your wrist quickly and w/a lot of power.

This will definitely improve your topspin.

Hope this made sense, good luck :]
