5. In testing a new drug, researchers found that 5% of all patients using it will have a mild side effect. A random sample of 11 patients using the drug is selected. Find the probability that:

a) exactly two will have this mild side effect

b) at least one will have this mild side effect.

  1. This is a binomial probability.

    part a)

    P(x=2) = (11 choose 2) * (.05)^2 * (.95)^9 = 0.0866592938

    8.67%

    part b)

    P(x>1) = 1 - P(x=1) - P(x=0)

    You can figure this one out using the above as a reference.

    If you need help with the actual calculation you can paste a phrase like "(11 choose 2) * (.05)^2 * (.95)^9" into google's search box and it will calculate it for you
