Can Stamp Duty on conveyance be paid 34 years late?

The Inland Revenue says that documents that have not been stamped cannot be used for any legal reason except if in a criminal case. What does the implication of this mean? Would it be reasonable for one to simply delay any court hearing that required proof of title, and pay the stamp duty 34 years late?

    (however IR will apply compound interest at 8% a year :-) )
