Can Stirling engines work on cars?

We are doing a science project on alternatives to gasoline and saw that Stirling engines can use any type of fuel. please help!

  1. Yes, any engine that can turn a shaft can work in a car


  2. For cars we only need to rotate the crank shaft, and stirling engines will work perfectly, the whole point is to get enough power to run the car at sufficient speed, it is however possible.

  3. The Stirlingg cycle is very interesting and if you like engines you should study it. The cycle is not well integrated into practical designs but it could be made much better with some work on the way heat recycling is done. Its the weak link in the cycle but better engineering would fix the problem.
