Once in a while, you'll see an overweight dog, cat, horse, or other animal, but never turtles! Why is that? Do their shells somehow prevent obesity? What would happen if a turtle got too fat for it's shell?

  1. I have had two for 36 yrs now plus a 8 yr old and a 5 yr old..

**Fat..no...they will eat till they get full and if they have the proper diet they can live past thier life expectancy like mine.

I have always feed them by filling the pond or tank with up to and over 100 fish..they eat at will. Lettuce 4 times a week and 3 times a week tubiflex worms in dried cube form or frozen blood worms.

Turtles can only grow as large as thier shell, the thicker the turtle the healthier.

  2. Never seen a fat turtle before. I've been keeping turtles as pets & now I only have 1 still survive for more than 3 years now.

  3. yes they can

if they do not get enough exercise and eat to much

  4. Turtles that are overfed can become obese, just as other animals (and people) can.
