Can Teenagers Rent a Hotel Room?

I am 17 and planning on going on an overnight stay to a city with a couple of friends in a couple of months. Do most hotels accept the payment of hotel rooms from teenagers? I am fully capable of it, but am unsure whether or not it is possible due to my age.

  1. It depends on the state. I know in a lot of states you have to be 21 to rent a room, and in others it's 18. The reason they do this is to prevent teenagers from renting rooms and then having wild parties and tearing up the place.

Since you have an actual reason for needing a hotel room, you can probably get one by having one of the parents call the hotel in advance to reserve the room, then explain the situation to the hotel staff. If the adult tells the hotel staff your name and that you will be the one staying there, they should understand.
