Question:

Can The United Nations Work?

At least for me Frontline's latest program regarding Darfur in Sudan has made it clear that the UN is not effective in resolving human conflict issues. I believe to many countries are in bed with each other to the point that one isn't willing to take serious action because of these relationships.

So people continue to died while we sign documents and do nothing.

  1. I agree with you Owl. after 50 years United nations not resolving Kashmir conflict.

its Flash Point between Pakistan and india

  2. Good thinking; everybody is in bed with everybody...If the USA, Russia and China would only have taken the UN seriously things could have been different though...

  3. No I don't think it can work. It has become such a corrupt organization that it isn't effective ,if it ever was. The idea of all nations uniting for the good of all is a great idea but human nature being what it is people soon start to look for ways to use the organization for their own benefit. Now there is talk that the UN wants to be able to tax the people in the countries that belong to the organization and that would just mean more money for more corrupt officials.

  4. Yeah, they all can work at MC Donald's, cleaning toilets.

  5. If countries around the world were willing to sacrifice for *anything*, it might work.  But that's not real life.  There are very few countries on this planet that will help others out.

The UN is a paper-pushing, whining, senseless organization that most times does more harm than good and it costs a small fortune to keep running.  Abolish it.

  6. the whole concept of the un is wrong. some times you just have to use force and there needs to be the will to use that force. the un needs some teeth; but how can the super powers give a 3rd world organization teeth? so at this place and time, i say no, the un is a impotent entity. the super powers want it their way and leave the blue hats at home until they say to come in and watch....if the world doesnt care about africa, then we just don't care about humanitarian issues, PERIOD! i hear you and don't have an answer.....

in my honest op, i really believe the world is hoping africa will just go away. nobody wants to know whats going on. hear no evil, speak no evil, and say no evil and maybe it will just all go away.....AND it's already too late. millions are dead in various brutal conflicts.....i guess the west has just accepted africa as a genocide killing field? very sad.....jeeeez.....

  7. I agree with you completely. It will continue to be ineffective unless some serious policy changes are made. There's a line from a movie that sums up the UN policy on conflict resolution.

UN: "We're gonna get really, really upset. And then we're going to tell you that we're upset!"

    That's about it.

  8. No. I dont believe it can

this is why the Founding Fathers warned Commerce with all nations, entangling alliance with none!

  9. The United Nations is an AID to conflict resolution.  It provides absolutely invaluable diplomatic relations and a forum for debate, issue awareness and potential cooperation.  People who think the UN is ineffective because it doesn't 'resolve conflict' have a very narrow view of the UN! The UN does many, many tasks, which have aided and structured the global community and international relations.  It provides a paradigm, a source of human security, education, development programs, international law - the list goes on!! Don't forget we are living in an era where problems of the commons are becoming increasingly concerning for numerous states, which again, is where the UN framework becomes a vital arena and institution of research and negotiation.  It should be noted that the UN is still a baby organisation... it's pretty much brand new! It takes time to develop a paradigm and strategy for global cooperation, but nevertheless, it is a very important and potentially powerful process.  People see sovereignty as an absolute in International relations, but forget that we are seeing increased power of supranational organisations and pooling of sovereignty.  The world order is not absolute!

  10. A prophetic analysis of the UN and the New World Order one world government agenda. Made in the 1990s but very relevant today God Bless USA Happy Thanksgiving be thankful
