Can This Happen Over the Internet?

If i'm on my computer at home, can someone else on a different computer (especially a Mac) be able to see my IM conversations or hack into my computer and see my screen and what i'm doing? I was having a personal convo with a friend about another person and it at one point related to a certain website, and soon after the convo I couldn't access that website at all, thought any other one is fine. They were online at the time and it was strange they had not tried IMing me, could they have read my convo and blocked me from the site?

It is completely possible, but highly unlikely. Whats a more likely idea is that your friend was sending what you typed to the third party.

they can steal information on your pc but they cant see unless they put camera in your room

Why would anyone want to read your personal conversations? If you're running a firewall and using basic PC safety then you're safe.

It's just a coincidence that the site wouldn't work.

someone can technically hack into your computer...BUT it's extremely unlikely! They cannot easily block you from one website. I think that the website just went down at an inopportune time.

Your parents could have blocked it. There is software that will monitor chat logs and if they are checking up on you could have found the website and blocked it in the router or with software. that's more likely then getting hacked.
